10 Tips For A More Sustainable Christmas

At PARAFINA, we love to celebrate Christmas, but we believe it can be done in a responsible and environmentally friendly way. It's simply a matter of incorporating some sustainable habits into traditional customs. Here are 10 easy-to-apply tips for an eco-friendly Christmas.

1. Put up an alternative Christmas tree. You don’t have to buy a plastic one, nor do you have to sacrifice a natural fir tree. Get creative and create your own sustainable Christmas tree, with loose branches or other recycled elements.

2. Wrap your presents in eco-friendly wrapping paper. Use whatever paper you have around the house to wrap your presents. Remember that wrapping paper is only used for a few minutes and, on the other hand, has a high environmental cost for our forests.

3. Give useful and sustainable gifts.  This Christmas, instead of giving the usual gifts, why not try something more sustainable, such as an eco-friendly product or experience, that doesn’t generate waste?

4. Avoid wasting food. Producing food takes a lot of effort and resources. Try not to waste food. If there is leftover food, bring out the chef in all of us. Invent a new dish and recycle.

5. Consume less and consume more responsibly. When shopping, preferably choose ecological products or products with sustainable materials or processes. And if they are from km 0, so much the better, to support the economy and local commerce.

6. Energy-saving Christmas lighting. Go for LED bulbs. They are more durable and their consumption is much lower than that of conventional bulbs.

7. Take your own bags to the supermarket. Go shopping with your own reusable bags and avoid abusing plastic ones.

8. Avoid single-use plastic. Take out your old crockery, cutlery and glassware and forget about disposable plates, forks and cups.

9. Use the eco mode on your appliances. The result will be the same and you will save resources such as water and energy.

10. Don’t forget to recycle. If you don’t separate your waste yet, now is a good time to start. Get yourself a suitable container and start recycling.
