10 Tips for a More Sustainable Christmas

At PARAFINA, we love celebrating Christmas, but we believe that it can be done in a responsible and environmentally friendly way. It's simply a matter of incorporating some sustainable habits into traditional customs. Here are 10 very easy-to-apply tips for an eco-friendly Christmas.

Parafina-Gafas-Ecologicas-Blog

1. Put up an alternative Christmas tree. You don't have to buy a plastic one, or sacrifice a natural fir tree. Get creative and create your own sustainable Christmas tree, using loose branches or other recycled elements.

2. Wrap your gifts with eco-friendly wrapping. Make use of the paper you have at home to wrap your gifts. Remember that wrapping paper is only used for a few minutes and, in turn, has a high environmental cost for our forests.

3. Give useful and sustainable gifts. This Christmas, instead of giving the usual gifts, why not try something more sustainable, like an eco-friendly product or experience that doesn't generate waste?

4. Avoid wasting food. Producing food requires a lot of effort and resources. Let's try not to waste food. If there is any leftovers, bring out the chef in all of us. Invent a new dish and recycle.

5. Less consumption and more responsibility. When you make a purchase, choose preferably ecological products or those made with sustainable materials or processes. And if they are from km0, even better, to support the local economy and commerce.

6. Low-consumption Christmas lighting. Choose LED bulbs. They last longer and consume much less energy than conventional bulbs.

7. Bring your own bags to the supermarket. Go shopping with your own reusable bags and avoid overusing plastic ones.

8. Avoid single-use plastic. Take out the old dishes, cutlery and glassware and forget about disposable plates, forks and glasses.

9. Use the eco mode on your appliances. The result will be the same and you will save resources, such as water or energy.

10. Don't forget to recycle. If you don't separate your waste yet, now is a good time to start. Get yourself a suitable container and start recycling.
