One of the essentials for going to the beach are good sunglasses. Taking care of them is important to be able to use them both on and off the beach and to maintain their quality, as well as prolonging their lifespan.
Here are some tips to protect your sunglasses while enjoying the sea, the sand and, of course, the sun:
Protective case: Always use a hard or semi-rigid case to store your sunglasses when you are not wearing them. This will help prevent scratches and damage when storing them in your bag, backpack or towel.
Proper cleaning: Clean your sunglasses with a soft, clean microfibre cloth. Avoid using toilet paper, napkins or other rough materials that can scratch the lenses. If the glasses are very dirty, rinse them first with fresh water before cleaning.
Fresh water rinse: After being at the beach, rinse your sunglasses with fresh water to remove salt and sand. This is especially important if your glasses have been soaked in seawater, as salt can damage coatings and frames.
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sun: When you are not wearing your sunglasses, store them in a shady place or in their case to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sun. Intense sunlight and heat can affect lens coatings and warp frames.
UV protection: Make sure your sunglasses have adequate UV protection to shield your eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays. Check the label or product description before you buy them.
Avoid upside down: Do not place your sunglasses upside down, as this may scratch the lenses. If you leave them on a surface, place them with the lenses facing upwards.
Don’t wear them on your head: Avoid wearing your sunglasses on your head.
Don’t leave them in hot places: Avoid leaving your sunglasses on the hot dashboard of a car or anywhere they are exposed to high temperatures, as excessive heat can damage the frames and lens coatings.
